MEET THE TEAM

JOHN ELLIS, PE

 John is the founder and principal engineer of Ellis Forensics and an expert in structural engineering, civil engineering, roofing systems, and indoor environmental issues. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in civil engineering from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and an MBA from Florida State University. John holds active licensure as a Professional Engineer in Florida. John is a Council-Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant, a Certified Excel Tribometrist, and has a TRI Florida High Wind Installer Certification. John teaches and trains engineers in the areas he consults.

TOM CULVER

Tom, our principal building consultant, is a Florida Licensed Building Contractor with 24 years of experience in the insurance restoration industry. Tom holds the IICRC Mold Removal Specialist (MRS) certification, as well as certifications in water mitigation (WRT) and fire and smoke remediation (FSRT) from IICRC.  He is also an ITC Certified Thermographer, a part 107 Licensed drone pilot, a Haag® Certified Roofing Inspector for residential and commercial roof coverings, and has a TRI-FRSA High Wind Certification for tile roofing in Florida. 


Tom has 20 years of experience using Xactimate® estimating software and specializes in desk reviews of plaintiffs' estimates, providing a well-balanced approach to ensure a fair and equitable estimate for all parties. Mr. Culver bases his recommendations on the current Florida Building Code and proper use of the estimating software. Mr. Culver also provides comparative estimates based on his own inspection or that of a licensed P.E., using engineers' recommendations to produce a recommended repair methodology and cost of repairs.

DANIEL ALVAREZ, PE

Daniel is a forensic engineer at Ellis Forensics and an expert in structural engineering, civil engineering, and roofing systems. He obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degree in civil engineering from Florida State University. Daniel holds active licensure as a Professional Engineer in Florida and Louisiana. He is also a Haag Certified Roofing Inspector for residential and commercial roof coverings and is in the process of obtaining his Certified Residential Contractor license in the State of Florida.
