MEET THE TEAM
JOHN ELLIS, PE

John is the founder and principal engineer of Ellis Forensics, with deep expertise in structural engineering, civil engineering, roofing systems, and indoor environmental issues. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and an MBA from Florida State University.

John is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida. He also holds certifications as a Council-Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant and TRI Florida High Wind Certified Installer. In addition to his consulting work, John teaches and mentors engineers in the same technical disciplines he practices.

TOM CULVER

Tom Culver is a Florida Licensed Building Contractor with 24 years of experience in the insurance restoration industry. He holds multiple industry certifications, including IICRC Mold Removal Specialist (MRS), Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT), and Fire & Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT). Tom is also an ITC Certified Thermographer, a Part 107 Licensed Drone Pilot, a Haag® Certified Roofing Inspector for both residential and commercial roof systems, and holds the TRI-FRSA High Wind Certification for tile roofing in Florida.

With two decades of experience using Xactimate® estimating software, Tom specializes in the desk review of estimates, offering a balanced, standards-driven perspective to ensure fair and accurate cost assessments. His recommendations are grounded in the current Florida Building Code and proper application of estimating methodology. He also develops comparative estimates based on his own field inspections or those conducted by a licensed Professional Engineer, ensuring each scope aligns with engineering findings and a defensible repair approach.

DANIEL ALVAREZ, PE

Daniel Alvarez is a forensic engineer at Ellis Forensics, specializing in structural engineering, civil engineering, and roofing systems. He holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Florida State University.
Daniel is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida and Louisiana and a Haag® Certified Roofing Inspector for both residential and commercial roof systems. He is also in the process of obtaining his Certified Residential Contractor license in the State of Florida.
In addition to his forensic work, Daniel performs residential remodeling projects, giving him firsthand experience with construction methods, building materials, and code compliance. This practical background enhances his field evaluations and helps bridge the gap between design and real-world application.

ASHTON MOTEN

Ashton has over 7 years of hands-on experience and expertise in the field of property inspections. He specializes in interior and exterior assessments, roof inspections, an avatar for engineering- and construction consulting-related inspections, tarp removal, resets, and ladder assistance. Ashton's practical training and dedication make him a valuable asset to Ellis Forensics. During his career, Ashton has collaborated with esteemed firms such as Hancock Claims and Aiden Chase Claims, traveling extensively to different states to perform a wide range of inspection services. His work includes documentation of property issues related to insurance claims and providing detailed and accurate reports. Ashton Moten is dedicated to offering professional and comprehensive inspection services.​​
